Split Myths, a new EP from Natasha Jacobs

Album art for Split Myths by Jenna Lee and Natasha Jacobs

A few days ago, VCS alumna Natasha Jacobs e-mailed me about a new EP she’s released titled Split Myths. Here’s what she had to say about its creation: “A few months after I graduated I fell off a ladder and hurt myself really bad, needed surgery and was bed-bound for a while. I ended up writing these songs and recording them.” Here’s how she’s described the songs:

a weathered voice carries well thought out words over non-formulaic nylon-string tunes

Soothing folk songs provide story and subtle truths

A.k.a Impish-cherub folk or perhaps atmospheric-broken leg folk

In addition to Natasha singing and playing nylon-string guitar and Wurlitzer, the EP also features Colin Cannon on electric guitar and Kira Sassano on shruti box.

Here are a couple of my favorite tracks:

You can listen to the rest of the songs on Soundcloud, read more about the EP on Natasha’s Facebook page, and download it at Bandcamp. There’s also a limited-edition CD version available with handmade image transfer cover art (shown below) by Natasha and her fellow VCS alumna Jenna Lee.

Split Myths handmade cover front and back
One of the handmade covers for Split Myths. Natasha comments: “Each of these is a bit different! The image transfer process I used for these is beautifully imperfect. I printed them on recycled cardboard sleeves. The design for the cover was a collaboration between myself and my good friend Jenna Lee.”
