Announcing a new film series for the VCS community

The fall 2013 semester starts today, and we’d like to welcome our students and faculty back to VCS, and say hello to our new first-year students.

Next week, we’re inaugurating a new film series scheduled for every other Tuesday evening this semester. It’s an informal extracurricular program offering a chance for people to hang out, watch a classic (or sometimes no-so-classic) movie, and get to know one another better outside the classroom. VCS Chair Assistant Bret Schneider came up with the idea a few months ago, and Systems Administrator Justin Elm figured out the schedule of films over the summer. The screenings are open to everyone in the VCS community, and free refreshments will be provided.

Here’s a poster showing the schedule for this semester. The first entry in the series is The Last Picture Show, directed by Peter Bogdanovich. It’s set to screen on Tuesday, September 10th in room 101C. (I’ll post an update soon with the time). [UPDATE, 9/4/2013: the film is set to start at 6:30 p.m.]

Film Screenings

I’m planning to post a little information about each film before it screens. If you’d like to read more about The Last Picture Show, here are three critical essays that accompanied with the Criterion Collection release of the film:

“The Last Picture Show: In With the Old” by Graham Fuller

“The Last Picture Show” by Danny Peary

“One Big Real Place: BBS From Head to Hearts” by J. Hoberman

 See you at the movies.
